Merton Hall
Merton Hall was built in the early 1960’s by Castle Ward as a place for elderly people to use for meeting together to socialise. Each week Monday to Saturday volunteers served coffee, tea, juice and biscuits at a very low cost. Whist and Bridge clubs meet there also.
It is still open 6 mornings a week from 9.30am until 11.30am so that people can drop in for refreshments and a chat with friends and rest while shopping etc.
Merton Hall now has to “pay its way” since the Parish Council is responsible, so nowadays there are many activities with use by different groups.
Citizens Advice are there on Tuesday morning 10am - 12 noon, also Tuesday is when the Stroke Club and their voluntary helpers spend several hours in activity.
Afternoons and evenings are all taken up by Whist and Bridge. there is also an Art group and a Photograhic Society.
The hall has recently been refurbished extensively thanks to the dedication of the management committee.
Other activities in Merton Hall are Tai Chi, Inner Wheel, Parish Council Meetings and Councillors Surgeries.
The hall can be contacted on 01661 872917, an answerphone operates when no staff are available.
