The North East England Group of the Alpine Garden Society
We are a group of like minded people interested in all types of Alpine plants, the different species, where they come from, how to propagate them and their growing needs.
Our Group meets at St. Mary’s Church Hall, Thornhill Road, Ponteland on the second Monday of each month from September to May.
The Hall is open from 7pm to give time to chat and to look at any plants, bulbs or seeds members might have for sale. The more formal part of the evening starts at 7.30 with a guest speaker giving an illustrated talk about their area of expertise or maybe a practical demonstration. This is followed by coffee time giving the chance to talk with the speaker informally and exchange ideas with other Group members, some of whom are experts in their own particular field. The meetings finish informally around 9.15pm.
We also have trips and garden visits (often to gardens not open to the public) during the Summer months. There are also regular newsletters through the year.
The Group organizes two annual National Shows: At Ponteland in the Autumn and at Hexham in the Spring.
